Award Winning?

Well, OK, perhaps not quite yet…
Perspective was honored this week by becoming a finalist in 2 categories for the 2008 Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) Distinguished Achievement Awards.

The Distinguished Achievement Awards recognize the best educational resources within the categories of Curriculum, Periodicals and Professional Development. An expert panel of educators, editors, designers and technology specialists evaluates products based on efficacy, usability and overall educational value.

Perspective is a finalist in two curriculum categories – Teaching Resources, Technology Websites, Grades 6-8; and Teaching Resources, Technology Websites, Grades 9-12.

While we may not have won (yet) we are very proud to have our hard work recognized by our industry peers. You can view the full press release here.

No Joke

April fools day is usually a day for some light humor at the expense of our friends and co-workers. This April, Texans must have thought that the state was kidding when the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced the availability of cutting-edge interactive study guides for Texas students to assist with TAKS preparedness. We had over 7,000 unique visitors to the site on April 3rd! Parents, teachers, and students must not have thought it was true. Since then, we have been averaging about 1,000 visitors a day.

While the TEA has provided Study Guides for some time, this marks the first large scale implementation of interactive study guides based on the TEA print guides. Also, in case you missed it, we did put out a press release announcing this blog and our new Reference Site. If you have any questions or comments about Perspective, please feel free to submit them. We will answer them as soon as possible.

How Does It Work?

Utilizing Dr. David Shin’s SubSCALE (Subscale Score/Cut-Score Achievement Level Estimation) program, Perspective reports feature Learning Locators™ that link student assessment results to appropriate enrichment or remediation resources. Student scores are calculated by the SubSCALE program and assigned a score profile. Students with similar score profiles are then grouped together and assigned a Learning Locator for each subject area tested.

Learning Locators are printed on individual student reports (ISRs) with directions to the Perspective online resources site. There, students enter their Learning Locators and receive rich media resources targeted to their needs.

The Perspective site features games, worksheets, interactivities, videos, etc. from our sister business units Scott Foresman, Prentice Hall, Penguin, FEN, and Teacher Vision along with trusted partners.
